The Republic, by the Greek philosopher Plato, is a Utopian dialogue about society which is ruled by a philosopher king. Plato includes women as productive members of the society who share similar roles as men, such as the military. Reproduction (the main difference between the sexes) should not be a hindrance to women, as the children are raised communally. This view of gender is similar to Spartan society and very progressive compared to Ancient Greek society (patriarchal). For these ideas, Plato is generally held in high esteem with women and feminists.
